Security: PKI and Secure Messaging/ Encryption |
|
Speakers (s)
About the Speaker: |
Drew Gansmiller, Senior IT Security and Networking
instructor with emphasis on Cisco Security
-
PKI and Secure Messaging
-
RSA and Asymmetric encryption
-
RSA theory and practical application
The central technique that allows secure messaging to work is
PKI, and PKI commonly depends on RSA Asymmetric encryption.
Everyone has read the magic sentence “whatever you encrypt
with one key can only be decrypted with the other”, but
since that makes no sense in the real world many IT professionals
have a weak understanding of why PKI works. If you don’t
understand why PKI works, then everything that depends on PKI
is built on an understanding of mush, and god help you if you
actually have to design or troubleshoot a PKI dependent issue.
Our purpose in <90 minutes is to review Asymmetric encryption,
demo it’s properties in a simplified representation, and
then see that the mathematical basis of RSA asymmetric encryption
relies only on 7th grade algebra. In other words, the goal is
to take a critical and familiar idea that is mushy and poorly
understood and make it real and tangible.
Thank you,
Drew

Freestyle configurations at Peak IP Solutions
Office |
|
Speakers (s)
About the Speaker: |
Douglas Renner / David Bigge / Jack Bowden.
-
Since we dont have a formal speaker this time around, we will
do a lab exercise we have done in the past that many have enjoyed
each time. We will use a couple of voice enabled 2811 Routers
and link them together via back to back T1's. We will then set
up some switches and get connectivity with routing protocols.
After that we will voice enable the solution old school style
and get a couple of analog phones ringing. Once that is complete,
we will blow up the configuration into a CallManager Express
VoIP solution. We should be able to get through it all. If you
are interested, please RSVP to drenner@ebcug.org.
We hope to see you there. This will be hands on fun! If you
know of others who may be interested in the group, please, as
always, forward this on to a friend or colleague and have them
register at www.ebcug.org/register.

About the Speaker: |

Matt Law
Sr. Product Marketing Manager
BakBone Software
-
Matt Law’s career spans software and hardware product
marketing and product management. Currently, as product marketing
manager for real-time data protection at BakBone Software, he
focuses on storage related data protection solutions. Prior
to BakBone, he held positions at Tech Data Corporation, Access
Graphics, Silicon Graphics, Overland Storage and others.
Matt will be accompanied by our Senior Systems Engineer, Paul
Smith and by Gary Parker, Product Marketing Manager for NetVault:
Backup.
- BakBone Solution
The presentation will lead with NetVault: FASTRecover, a disk-based,
real-time data protection that eliminates backup windows
for Exchange, SQL Server and Windows File Servers. As
you will see in the demonstration, the Virtual On-Demand Recovery
component makes these applications and data available for use
in as little as 30-seconds. Users can access the recovered Exchange,
SQL Server or Windows file system data as soon as a brief recovery
setup phase has been completed, without waiting for the full
recovery to complete. For example, Exchange databases can be
mounted before the recovery is complete, allowing users to send
and receive email. NetVault: FASTRecover integrates with
traditional backup applications including NetVault: Backup,
so we will conclude with Gary giving an overview of NetVault:
Backup.

Fluke Networks and Cisco IOS Technologies- Deep Dive into Analysis and Performance

A discussion on how Cisco IOS Technologies can be leveraged to gain a
better understanding of network, voice, and application performance.
Included in the presentation will be brief demonstrations of products
